So I have been inspired to spend some time working on samples of music to show what I am able to create. Samples instead of complete pieces seem like the way to go in my busy life. Here are three reasons why you should write at least one thing a day even if it is super short(above each is a sample of mine).

1. Creativity is something that needs to be exercised. Making short concise music forces you to focus on just the creative side.
2. Problem solving needs to be a speedy process. If you are going to be efficient with music making you must solve problems quickly. The ability to set up, create, record, and upload in a short time prepares you to be ready when that commission or opportunity comes.

3. Nike. You need to do it. The longer it is, the more complete you think it must be, the less likely you will actually do it.
So go on. Write something tonight. Tomorrow. Who cares if it is bad. Your exercising.
So when I drive I listen to the radio. Well listen might be a stretch, I quickly blaze through the stations with one hand on the tune button. If I here something I like I linger. I really have no rhyme or reason for what I listen to. If it is familiar that might catch my eye or it might be justification to skip it. Who feels the same way about music? Do you have a voracious audio appetite? Nothing satisfies you. You have the Hunger
Well hey, it keeps me up when I drive. It also keeps me up at night but that is a different topic. Comment below if you have other ways to quench your Hunger.
When Rachel and I were budgeting before the wedding and before the move we decided to go without home internet to balance our budget. It was a great decision and a great learning experience however I am glad we got internet back today.
When you don't have home internet everything is further away and smaller. We had a smartphone so there was still internet but it felt like you were accessing it through some adventure game like Myst where you really want to see everything at once but you can only view one small portion of the world at a time. True connection only happened in public places. There is something disturbing about how 20 years ago internet didn't exist but now it is necessary to feel in touch. It is what it is.
There are great things about not having internet. You truly have a private place. Home should be free from work prodding and social responsibilities(at least from 2-8AM). There is something amazing about saying, "well I will check my email when I can and if it is really important someone will call me." However everything happens slower and you always feel like you are missing out on something. As a musician my worry was missing gigs or students because of unread emails.
So I say let's all have home internet but know when to shut the door, and be free of screens. Our creativity and weak eyes require it.
